Bicycles and Classic Cars

With a new year ahead of us it's good to make plans what to do or draw. When it comes to drawing I've narrowed the choice of subjects down to two items: every drawing this year posted on my weblog has to be bicycle or classic cars related.
I also plan to make at least four bigger drawings then I usually make. The first sketch is already in the making: it's going to be an Austin Healey 3000. The final result can be seen on my webshop, where you already can find four examples of black and white drawings of classic cars.
Furthermore I plan to make one or two paintings. Subjects are not yet chosen, but that won't be the problem. My main problem will be finding time to make all this stuff.

Gustave Doré

I remember seeing the work of Gustave Doré for the first time in my life. It made quite an impact to me. Especially the way the gray parts of the black and white drawings were printed. Later I found out that Doré made the drawings and a team of highly skilled engravers made then the drawings suitable for printing. His work pushed the printing of illustrations in the nineteenth century to a higher level.
Gustave Doré was a self-taught artist, lived from 1832 till 1883 and left an enormous oeuvre of fantastic drawings for the world to enjoy.

Deja Vu

As I was making sketches this week for a drawing I plan to make about different kinds of bread, I had this deja vu of drawings I've made about 15 years ago. My nephew, who owns several bakery-stores, asked me to make drawings for a series of ads he was planning to place in the local newspaper. The drawings were supposed to be used all year round, so I made several different ones. Themes were: Christmas, Eastern, New Years Eve, and so on, and so on. Luckily I've found a print in my archive to share with you, cause the original drawings are long lost. No one knows what happened with them. Maybe they show up at an auction when my work becomes famous...

Inline skates

Well, it looks like it won't be freezing for a while so I've changed my speedskates to inline skates. I usually do that for some strange reason when Spring has allready arrived, at the end of April or -like now- in the first days of May.
Last year I didn't skate much because of my weak left ankle, so let's see how this year develop. When everything goes smoothly you can see some drawings ahead which I usually make during my outings on skate or bike. Ink and watercolor, 4" x 6".
